Updated : Updated with reported fatalities, post-tropical status and the October 10 emergency petroleum-reserve exchange.
Recovery begins after landfall
Isaias reached the Florida Gulf Coast as a Category 2 hurricane and was later classified as post-tropical. Reuters and the Associated Press reported four deaths across Florida and Alabama on Saturday. Reuters estimated roughly 670,000 electricity customers were still without power around midday.
The National Hurricane Center’s final early-Saturday discussion described the weakening system inland. Post-tropical classification describes the storm’s structure; it does not by itself mean that flooding and other residual impacts have ended.
Four million reserve barrels are authorized for exchange
The US Energy Department announced emergency exchanges of up to four million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve on October 10 to address supply disruption. ExxonMobil and BP America are each eligible for up to two million barrels.
The companies must return the borrowed oil, with premium barrels, in 2027. This is an exchange arrangement rather than a permanent sale. The authorization also does not establish that all four million barrels have already been delivered.

Offshore production is returning gradually
Reuters reported that about 69 percent of offshore Gulf oil output and 57 percent of gas production remained shut on Saturday. Operators were starting to return personnel to facilities as conditions allowed.
The lead satellite image records Isaias on October 8, before landfall, and the platform photograph is an archival view. This article retains its original publication date; the update timestamp identifies the new recovery and energy-supply reporting.
