Nagoya closes the Games and passes the flag to Doha
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games concluded on October 4 with a ceremony at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. The Olympic Council of Asia says its flag was handed from the Japanese hosts to Qatar, whose capital Doha is due to host the 2030 Games.
Reuters independently reported the formal closing by OCA President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. CNA’s account also described the ceremony and reported that China finished at the top of the medal table.
Sporting achievements and logistical concerns
Reuters’ closing report described logistical problems alongside sporting achievements. That distinction matters when reading the organizer’s celebratory account: an event can produce memorable performances while participants experience operational difficulties.
The handover establishes the next host’s place in the event’s schedule. It does not, by itself, resolve questions about how this edition was organized or how future delivery will be assessed.
Completion does not establish operational success
A closing ceremony is not an independent audit of the Games. This report does not treat promotional assessments as proof that every operational objective was met, and it does not infer a final financial outcome from the event’s completion.
What future hosts can learn — analysis
Large international sporting events have two records: what happens in competition and how the gathering is delivered. Keeping those questions separate allows readers to recognize athletes’ achievements while evaluating hosting decisions. The move toward Doha provides an opportunity to examine what lessons organizers actually carry forward.
