Compared Associated Press and Euronews accounts published on Oct. 31; both report the 70,000-person security deployment and Paris route restrictions. A large security operation for a third Saturday
France deployed 70,000 police and gendarmes on Saturday as demonstrations over living costs and education entered a third consecutive weekend. The scale of the operation reflects authorities’ effort to prevent a repeat of the looting and clashes that followed earlier marches, while allowing protests to proceed.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez warned of a high risk of disorder after dark on Halloween, the Associated Press reported. The movement began with students protesting school conditions and broadened into anger over household costs and public services.
Paris routes and overnight limits tightened
Police authorities in Paris barred union and Yellow Vest marches from the city centre on Friday and directed them to an outer-boulevard route. AP reported that unions and student groups challenged the restrictions in court. Entry to Place de la République and Les Halles was also barred overnight, while an earlier curfew affecting minors had been suspended by a court.
The measures follow two successive Saturdays of demonstrations. The Interior Ministry counted 410,000 participants nationwide on Oct. 24, including 110,000 in Paris; these are government figures, not an independent tally.

Protests echo across Europe
The French rallies are part of a broader wave of youth-led demonstrations. AP reported planned gatherings in about 30 German cities and heightened security in parts of Italy and Spain after earlier clashes. Calls to protest had also circulated in several other European countries, though that does not establish that demonstrations occurred in each one.
The latest mobilisation brings a public-order challenge together with disputes over education and purchasing power. The size of Saturday’s turnout and whether marches remain peaceful will shape the next response from the government and police.
