Reviewed the Green Climate Fund’s indexed B.46 release and approved-project list; its pages returned 403 when opened directly. Reuters’ full report independently confirms the central funding totals. Approval figures do not mean all funds have been disbursed or project outcomes achieved. Both photos are dated archive context from countries with projects approved at the meeting; neither shows the session or funded projects.
A record decision before COP31
The Green Climate Fund approved $1.97 billion for 21 projects at its board meeting in Songdo, South Korea, which ended on October 29. The decisions bring the fund’s approvals for 2026 to a record $3.2 billion, according to the fund and Reuters.
The project list includes a forest-management programme in Cameroon and a coral-reef resilience project in Fiji. The fund said five approvals were the first single-country projects it had backed in Algeria, Cameroon, Moldova and Yemen. These are funding approvals; they do not mean projects have already delivered their intended results.
The fund wants private investment to do more
Six private-sector initiatives account for $682 million of the new approvals, Reuters reported.
The fund has historically mobilised about $3 in additional resources for each dollar it invests, and $4.50 for its private-sector projects. Duarte told Reuters the private-sector figure rose to $9 last year and said the fund wants to move beyond $10 per dollar.

A larger portfolio, with replenishment ahead
The latest approvals bring the GCF portfolio to $22.3 billion across 379 projects. The fund and Reuters put the total value at $86.4 billion when co-financing is included. Duarte told Reuters that the fund had more than $11 billion in demand for finance as it looks toward COP31 and its third replenishment round.
The totals show the scale of the pipeline, but the practical test will be whether approved projects secure their financing and carry out the work. The board’s decisions set a record for one meeting; they are an early step in that longer process.
