Reporting Notes

ABC and AP accounts of the arrests were compared. The detailed Petra release could not be opened, so police statements are attributed through those reports. Assessments of the suspects’ affiliations remain preliminary; no court finding is reported.

Dawn raid follows the funeral attack

Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects on October 26 in connection with the attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak that killed nine people, authorities said. All three were wounded during a shootout; no security personnel were wounded, according to the Public Security Directorate, cited by AP.

The October 23 attack struck a funeral service. AP reported that no group had claimed responsibility.

Officials said the suspects were located in an abandoned house in Al-Jadeeda, near Hamoud, where St. George’s church was attacked. They refused to surrender and exchanged fire with security forces, a government spokesperson said, according to ABC.

Officials describe local suspects

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said the three men were Jordanian nationals and that there were no indications of affiliations with outside parties. Police chief Obeidallah Al-Maaytah described them as relatives, including two brothers, and said they held extremist views, ABC reported.

Those statements describe the authorities’ initial assessment of the suspects, rather than a judicial determination. Police said firearms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout.
