Reporting Notes

Regeneron’s October 26 announcement was compared with Reuters. Procurement terms are company-reported expectations, not completed deliveries. Inmazeb’s approved indication and the separate investigational programme are distinguished; no independent assessment of the experimental therapy’s efficacy was performed.

Additional doses for US preparedness

Regeneron announced on October 26 that it had extended its agreement with the US Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority to supply additional doses of its Ebola treatment Inmazeb. The company expects deliveries through 2031 and payments of approximately $270 million.

The extension builds on a procurement agreement dating from 2020. It is a supply arrangement for US preparedness, rather than an announcement that the additional doses have already been delivered.

Different viruses, different treatment questions

Inmazeb is a combination of three antibodies approved in the United States for infection caused by Orthoebolavirus zairense, previously known as Zaire ebolavirus. Its efficacy has not been established for other orthoebolavirus species, according to the prescribing limitations reproduced in Regeneron’s announcement.

That distinction matters because the current outbreak in Africa involves Bundibugyo virus. The supply extension should not be read as approval of Inmazeb for that outbreak.

Separately, Regeneron said its investigational maftivimab monotherapy is being added to the PARTNERS clinical trial as a potential Bundibugyo treatment. The company cited laboratory and non-human-primate findings; those results do not establish effectiveness in patients.

Maftivimab is one component of Inmazeb, but the experimental single-antibody programme is distinct from procurement of the approved three-antibody medicine.
