Reporting Notes

The Australian government’s October 26 account was compared with AFP reporting carried by CNA. Flight numbers and the announced route timetable come from the government; future service dates are schedules, not completed launches.

Auckland opens the international network

Western Sydney International Airport began international passenger services on October 26, with an Air New Zealand flight arriving from Auckland before departing on the return journey. The Australian government and AFP reported the start of the service.

The government identified the arriving flight as NZ165 and the departure as NZ166. The route will operate three return services each week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The new airport gives international travellers another Sydney gateway alongside the city’s established main airport. AFP reported that the new service follows more than four decades of planning for an airport in Sydney’s western suburbs.

More routes are scheduled to follow

Daily non-stop Singapore flights are scheduled to begin on November 23, according to the government. Services to Ho Chi Minh City are due in January 2027 and Nadi in March 2027.

The terminal was designed for 10 million passengers a year, with scope for expansion. That figure describes capacity rather than the number of passengers already using it.

For travellers in Sydney’s west, the practical change is access to an overseas departure point without first crossing the city to its existing main airport. The initial Auckland service runs on three days a week; the other announced international connections have yet to start.
